Housing recovery remains a work-in-progress

Market sees modest inventory gains, but overall prices inch up

Sales exhibited stable growth through the first half of the year in the Calgary housing market, but the number of transactions slowed slightly in July compared to last year.

City-wide sales totaled 1,637 units, six per cent below July 2016 levels. Year-to-date sales activity totaled 11,957 units, nine per cent above last year. Read more

Calgary census data indicates economy is starting to improve

Mayor Naheed Nenshi said Thursday that results from Calgary's most recent census give him hope that the city is finally coming out of an economic slump.

"On the net migration number it is absolutely showing signs of the beginning of a recovery because people are optimistic about moving here," Nenshi told reporters at a media conference on Thursday. Read more

City announces community hubs for 6 Calgary communities

The City of Calgary is hoping to bring people together through the launch of six new community hubs over the next five years.

Two community hubs are already up and running at Village Square Leisure Centre and the Genesis Centre in the North of McKnight area. The rest will be built in the communities of Bowness, Greater Forest Lawn, Sunalta and Vista Heights. Read more
